Winter sun filters
through heavy air, softening
harsh landscape outlines.
The lacy pattern
of elm leaves stands out
against the blue sky.
Tiny, perfect flakes
drop through space forming a white
shimmering blanket.
The sun sets, leaving
an indelible image
of coloured clouds.
Rolling hills flow on
into a fugue of mountain ranges
lifting and falling.
Glinting on water
sun shines and doubles itself.
So do ducks and trees.
Your eyes smiling down.
Crocuses in early spring.
Swallows flying high.
