God needs always to be born

As Eckhart said to Mary's midwives

By the palm tree near the pond,

While in other tales they came too late,

Cost too much or were not there at all:

Puah and Shiprah gave out lies

Which kept Pharaoh in the dark -

But it is the business of the Spirit

Who must be midwife to us all

To hold our heart's desires by their heels

And slap their backs for breath.
